Questions and Answers
The unit does not turn on
  • The battery is defective or polarity is reversed or contacts need to be cleaned.
  • The unit has been dropped and needs servicing.
How are grain calibration numbers selected?
Depress the right hand switch and press the upper or lower keys to select the required number. Refer to the grain list.
The display turns on, but the display flashes and no calibration can be selected.
Do not shake the unit while turning it on and place the instrument flat and stable.
The instrument is not accurate
  • The grain calibration needs to be biased to a reference instrument.
  • The reference instrument is thought to be more accurate than it actually is.
The unit does not have a satisfactory repeatability
Repeatability varies with the grain variety, the moisture content. As a rule, it should be within +/- 0.5 point of moisture under normal harvesting or storaging conditions. To improve repeatability:
  • Improve the grain pouring conditions into the cell as explained in the manual (Pour in the center of the cell within approx. 8 seconds) and watch the display symbol carefully during the grain cell filling operation.
  • Adjust the instrument scale as explained in the manual, using the 198-gram weight.
  • Transport the instrument with the grain sample cup in the locked position.
  • Check thermistor for potential damage.
  • The unit was dropped and needs service.
What is the current moisture bias of a grain?
Depress the lower switch on the left hand side of the display and turn the unit on. A value will show indicating the current bias calculated from the factor default value, which is 0. Every grain has its own bias value. If the reference instrument used to bias the unit has been changed, a new bias must be entered, as per instructions in the manual.
What is the meaning of the digital values displayed upon power up?
There can be confusion between the grain calibration codes and the error codes displayed on the instrument:
  • 7 _ : Grain calibration number selected
  • - 6 - : Error code number 6
